New Publication! Increasing climate-related resilience in the forest-based value chains? A policy perspective

A new study titled “Increasing Climate-Related Resilience in Forest-Based Value Chains: A Policy Perspective” by our colleagues Alice Ludvig, Blasius Schmid, Barbara Öllerer, together with their co-authors, explores the complexities of climate resilience in the forestry sector. With climate change, biodiversity loss, and increased wood demand, the sector faces numerous challenges. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of how current European policies address climate-related resilience in the forest-based value chain, from carbon storage to timber production and bioenergy.

The study uses both policy document analysis and expert input to investigate how resilience is conceptualized and prioritized. The findings reveal a divided landscape, with resilience interpreted differently across strategies. The paper calls for enhanced communication between departments focused on biodiversity, productivity, and climate-related resilience to better align policies and address societal demands.

This timely research highlights the need for more integrated approaches to ensure forest-based value chains can adapt to increasing climate pressures while maintaining productivity and ecological balance.
