The European Forest Institute’s (EFI) Young Leadership Programme – Mediterranean 2025 (YLPMED 2025) is set to empower the next generation of leaders in Southeastern Europe to tackle climate change challenges through climate-smart forest management and biodiversity conservation. The region, known for its rich biodiversity and vital forests, is increasingly impacted by extreme weather, pest infestations, and changing precipitation patterns.

This unique programme will focus on the critical role of forest reproductive material (FRM)—seeds, cones, and other plant materials used for forest regeneration—in enhancing forest resilience and adaptability. Participants will gain valuable insights into FRM’s role in sustainable forestry, with top experts providing training on best practices for selection, collection, and genetic conservation.

In addition to technical knowledge, YLPMED 2025 will offer participants opportunities to develop soft skills such as communication, advocacy, and media campaign strategies to attract young talent and reshape the forestry sector’s image.

Hosted by the Croatian Forest Research Institute in Jastrebarsko, Croatia, the programme will run in early May 2025. Applications are open until 15 December.
