EFI-FPRN Team’s successfully contributed to the 26th IUFRO Congress in Stockholm

The European Forest Institute’s Forest Policy Research Network (EFI-FPRN) made significant contribution to the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) 26th World Congress, in Stockholm from June 23 to 30, 2024.

The IUFRO World Congress, held every five years, is one of the most prestigious gatherings in the forestry research community. This year’s theme, “Forests and Society: Sustaining Lives, Livelihoods, and Landscapes,” addressed critical issues facing forests worldwide, such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable forest management.

The EFI-FPRN team were involved in several key activities throughout the congress:

1. Presentation of Research Findings: The team presented their latest research on various topics based on their expertise, such as forest innovation, policy, gender, bioeconomy, biodiversity and resilience.

2. Panel Discussions: EFI-FPRN team also participated in multiple panel sessions sharing their insights and experiences and engaging with other experts to explore solutions to global forestry challenges.

3. Session moderation. The team was actively involved in organizing and moderating multiple sessions during the Congress. Working on specific themes about: responsible forest bioeconomy, forest biodiversity and its ecosystem services, forests for sustainable societies and forests for the future. 

3. Network events: The team met with multiple Network partners around Europe to exchange current updates, discuss recent developments and strengthen collaboration. Some of our sessions are also co-organized with our Network partners providing a venue for feedback and dialogue.

The participation of EFI-FPRN in the IUFRO 26th Congress underscores their commitment to advancing forest innovation, policy, biodiversity research, and supporting the global effort to promote multi-functionality of forests and their services.
